Drug Litigation
South Carolina Drug Litigation Attorney
If a new drug does not go through adequate testing or is prescribed for off-label use, patients’ lives may be at risk. At Knie & Shealy Law Offices, I represent patients injured by Actos, Pradaxa and Duragesic pain patches. This is not a complete list of defective drugs. If you don’t see your medication listed here, please speak with me. I handle individual cases and class-action suits.
People who are injured by defective products may be entitled to compensation for the cost of medical treatment, lost wages, and pain and suffering. I help injured patients and families who have lost loved ones recover damages from the drugs’ manufacturers. Actos, Pradaxa and Duragesic Pain Patches
Actos (pioglitazone) is used to control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a safety announcement in 2011 because of the risk of developing bladder cancer while taking Actos. Patients who took Actos for more than a year are at increased risk for bladder cancer.
Pradaxa (dabigatran) is a blood thinner used to reduce the risk of blood clots and stroke in people with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. In 2012, the FDA warned doctors against use for patients with mechanical prosthetic heart valves. Pradaxa can cause uncontrollable internal bleeding. While other blood thinners have reversal agents to counteract internal bleeding, Pradaxa does not. Patients who experience this problem may suffer serious injury or wrongful death.
Duragesic pain patches were recalled by the manufacturer in 2008. Certain patches had a defect that allowed them to leak fentanyl directly onto a patient’s skin. Direct contact with this powerful drug can be fatal.
